"Entanglements of Power. Geographies of Domination and Resistance" Ed. by J.P.Sharp, P.Routledge, C.Philo and R.Paddison

The purpose of this book is to explore fresh perspectives on the geographies of power. In particular, we wish to emphasise the myriad entanglements that are integral to the workings of power, stressing that there are—wound up in these entanglements—countless processes of domination and resistance which are always implicated in, and mutually constitutive of, one another.

Practices of resistance cannot be separated from practices of domination; they are inextricably linked and produce complex entanglements of power. Entanglements of Power is a collection of essays designed to trace thoroughly the entangled geographies of domination and resistance which are integral to all workings of power. Thinking about power, domination, resistance, space and place, the book contains challenging essays from leading authors in the field which address these themes in a diversity of ways.

In doing so, the contributors explore specific themes of identity formation, embodied experience, surveillance and display, colonialism and post-colonialism, representational politics, and societal transformation. The rich body of case material includes: German reunification; Jamaican Yardies on British television; Victorian sexuality and London parks; ethnicity, gender and nation in Ecuador; sport as power; and the film Falling Down.
