A handbook of terms used in chaos and quantum chaos

Nonlinear dynamics is one of the most active research fields in science. In particular chaos and quantum chaos are rapidly extending fields. Many new definitions,notions, notations and theorems have been introduced in this field. In reading original articles beginners in this research field have the problem to cope with new terminology such as fractals, devil staircase, Feigenbaum sequence, Julia set, hyperchaos etc.. It is intended that physicists, mathematicians, chemists and engineers can use the book. Inn many cases an example is given to illustrate the definition. The research field nonlinear dynamics is still in progress so that some definitions and notations have not yet settled down. There is often no unique terminology in the literature concerning chaos and quantum chaos. Since on the one hand difference equations (mappings) and on the other hand differential equations (continuous systems) are investigated in connection with nonlinear dynamics we have to give the definitions for both cases. For almost all definitions we give references for further reading. Although voluminous, our bibliography is far from complete. It can only be hoped that omitted references can be traced back from it.Without doubt, this handbook can be extended. If you have comments or suggestions, I would be pleased to have them.
