Alberto Manguel, geboren 1948 in Buenos Aires, wirkte unter anderem in Buenos Aires, Paris, London, Mailand und Toronto als Verlagslektor und Literaturdozent. Er übersetzte zahlreiche Bücher und ist Herausgeber von Anthologien und Kurzgeschichten. Er lebt vorwiegend in Toronto und Paris und ist seit 1988 kanadischer Staatsbürger. Für sein Buch "Eine Geschichte des Lesens" wurde er mit dem Prix Médicis ausgezeichnet.
