Für die Neuauflage wurde nicht nur die äußere Form geändert, sondern auch der gesamte Text überarbeitet, um ihn noch verständlicher zu machen. Es wurde der Tatsache Rechnung getragen, dass heute die meisten Diplom-Mathematiker Informatik als Nebenfach haben (statt wie früher Physik) und es wurden an verschiedenen Stellen Bezüge zur Informatik hergestellt. Verschiedene Übungsaufgaben wurden ergänzt. Die bewährten Charakteristiken des Buches haben sich nicht geändert. Es dringt ohne große Abstraktionen zu den wesentlichen Inhalten (Grenzwerte, Stetigkeit, Differentiation, Integration, Reihen-Entwicklung) vor und illustriert sie mit vielen konkreten Beispielen.
Das Buch ist bestens geeignet für Anfänger-Vorlesungen in Analysis für Mathematiker (Diplom und Lehramt), Physiker und Informatiker.
