“Introduction
Asperger’s syndrome is a mild form of autism that causes problems with everyday socialization, communication, and relating to other people. It is a confusing combination of abilities and disabilities, strengths and weaknesses, talent and disorder. People with Asperger’s have normal or high intelligence and yet struggle with understanding social rules, making friends, and grasping how to engage in casual onversations. They may be physically uncoordinated and immature and yet have extraordinary special talents and memorization skills. They may seem emotionally unresponsive and yet feel things very deeply. A person with Asperger’s syndrome seems different and does not “fit in.” He or she may be labeled a loner, an eccentric, a weirdo, a freak, or an uncool geek by classmates and peers. People with Asperger’s syndrome often say that they feel as if they are foreigners in a strange country. They have a different way of thinking and find it hard to fathom the language, thinking processes, and culture of the natives who inhabit this foreign land.”
