Сражение, разыгравшееся в первую неделю Великой Отечественной войны в треугольнике Луцк-Броды-Дубно, по праву может считаться одним из крупнейших танковых битв в мировой истории. Принимавшие в нём участие пять советских механизированных корпусов насчитывали около 2 800 танков, три немецких моторизованных корпуса -- около 800 танков и САУ. Столкновение крупных масс танков сопровождалсь интенсивной войной в воздухе, в ходе которой на танковые армады обрушивались сотни тонн бомб.

Дубненские бои были единственным контрударом советских войск в ходе приграничных сражений июня 1941 г., позитивно повлиявших на общий неблагоприятный для СССР ход событий начального периода войны.
