Britain's Economic Performance

Description

This book has its origins in the closure of the National Economic Development Office in 1992. One of the duties of the Office was to conduct independent analyses of aspects of the supply side of the British economy. The need for such work remains, and subsequent to the Office closing, a number of former members of the Office, as well as other interested recruits, have created a network of economists committed to the deeper understanding of Britain’s economic performance which is so necessary if economic policy is to transcend the boundary between rhetoric and reality. The editors of this book would like to thank all those who have participated in discussions and have offered advice, especially the participants at a workshop at London Guildhall University in March 1996. They would also like to thank colleagues both at London Guildhall University and at London Business School, who have offered encouragement over the past eighteen months.
