Desktop Outsourcing: Positive Results Reported, but Analysis Could be Strengthened: David L. McClure

Since 1997, Fed. agencies have been engaging in an info.-tech. outsourcing approach for acquiring services in support of their desktop computing environment from a single source, generally known as seat management (SM). This report determines whether 6 agencies involved in SM have realized expected costs & benefits & to identify lessons learned. The agencies that were selected used various contract vehicles & had at least one year of experience with the contract. This report recommends that the 6 agencies review & monitor actual SM costs & benefits, & that when considering SM invest., that they analyze expected costs & benefits &, & implement the lessons learned in this report.
