Flash.Vol.2.No.228.Jan.2006

Description

Wally is having visions of some horrible fate awaiting his family in the future so he takes some device from the Flash museum which will supposedly safeguard them. But as we learn, it is all part of some evil plot. Nightwing and Cyborg guest star but they don't really do much. In fact, the story is rather labored, almost as if it was trying to achieve the same sense of over-the-top imaginativeness often used to describe the stories of Grant Morrison. Was it really necessary to have an entire issue just to show Wally picking up some crazy-looking ray gun? The villain's appearance is a genuine surprise but his new motivation is a confounding surprise-- like they were trying to inject some "relevance" into a good old-fashioned world conqueror. The art has a good grasp of storytelling and detail but where it falls short is in the figure of the Flashes. Their high-speed running looks stiffly-posed with some speed lines behind them to make them look fast. It doesn't have the smooth evocation of speed that Infantino and Novick achieved so effortlessly.
