In den thematisch sehr unterschiedlichen Beitragen zur Erforschung des Diencepha-
Ions, die auf dem 111. Tnternationalen Symposioh der Neurobiologen, Kiel, 1962, vorgelegt
und diskutiert wurden, spiegelt sich die Kompliziertheit der Struktur und Funktion
dieses Hirnabschdttes. Ihre Ergebnisse machen insbesondere die Schwierigkeit
deutlich, die mannigfachen Verkniipfungen der verschiedenenen Zwischenhirnanteile
untereinander und mit anderen Gehirnbereichen, so dem Cortex, herauszuschalen,
Verkniipfungen, auf die Prof. Dr. R. Hassler in seinem einleitenden Referat iiber
spezifische und unspezifische Projektionssysteme des menschlichen Zwischenhirns
eingeht. Die Vortrage erinnern zugleich an das auf das Zwischenhirn gemiinzte Wort
von W. R. Hess (1948), “dass funktioneller und morphologischer Aspekt organischer
Ordnung so eng miteinander verbunden sind, dass das eine ohne das andere fur sich
allein nicht in vollem Umfang begriffen werden kann.”
