S'il est un sujet éminemment révélateur de la mentalité d'un peuple, c'est l'étude de sa religion. Le monde des dieux pour comprendre celui des hommes : tel pourrait être le résumé de cette étude qui, sous la forme lexicale, aborde les principaux dieux des mythologies grecque, romano-étrusque, celte, scandinave et égyptienne.
Cinq mondes divins, cinq histoires qui, à travers l'étude de leurs principaux acteurs, permettent de retracer l'évolution de la pensée religieuse des peuples concernés. Une évolution qui, étonnamment, suit la même pente, le même tracé, partant d'un monde divin axé sur la terre et la mort à un monde solaire.
La comparaison entre les quatre mythologies indo-européennes est encore plus frappante au point que l'auteur a pu aisément établir des parallèles, voire des corrélations qui posent la question d'une unique mythologie originelle.
