Janvier 1975, lancement de la fusée Métal Hurlant. Créé par une poignée de transfuges de Pilote, ce magazine de bandes dessinées devient le vecteur d'une révolution culturelle sous le règne de laquelle nous vivons encore. Plusieurs générations d'Humanoïdes s'assemblent et jettent leurs passions - BD franco-belge, comics US, underground, cinéma-bis, littérature fantastique, Se roman noir, érotisme SM, rock, mode, design - dans ce grand shaker pour produire un mélange au goût étrange, carburant de toute notre modernité. Pendant treize ans, à coups de numéros spéciaux et d'éditions étrangères, Métal propage sur la planète ses visions incendiaires. Cette french touch soufflera jusqu'à Tokyo ou Hollywood, si bien que, trois décennies plus tard, Luc Besson, Ridley Scott, Tim Burton, Hayao Miyazaki, pour ne citer que ceux-là, peuvent se réclamer de l'influence de Métal Hurlant et de ses artistes. L'odyssée de Métal racontée par ses principaux acteurs, illustrée de photos et de documents inédits, suivie d'un scrapbook rassemblant plus de 600 images de légende extraites du magazine et de ses dérivés. 300 pages de pur bonheur pour comprendre comment La Machine à Rêver a modifié à jamais l'ADN de la BD, l'esthétique du XXe siècle finissant, et jeté les bases du XXIe, qui sera visuel ou ne sera pas.
