The volume is low because it is suppose to be heard only in the background, and not as a "normal" audiobook. I have other files of this kind, and I can tell you that in some the voices are barely audible. I have the gateway experience cds too, and in some of them the voice is very low too, so as not to startle the listener. It is I wanted effect, then, and it would have been the same with the wav files.
