The material for these volumes has been selected from the past twenty years' examination questions for graduate students at University of California at Berkeley, Columbia University, the University of Chicago, MIT, State University of New York at Buffalo, Princeton University and University of Wisconsin.

Compiled by the Physics Coaching Class of the Chinese University of Science & Technology (for the benefit, evidently, of Chinese students preparing to pursue graduate study in the US), the volume presents problems (with their solutions) selected from the entrance and qualifying examinations of seven US universities (UC/Berkeley, Columbia, Chicago, MIT, SUNY/Buffalo, Princeton, Wisconsin). A total of 367 problems pertain to thermodynamics (Part I) and to statistical mechanics (Part II). Companion volumes of similar design and function treat mechanics, electromagnetism, optics, atomic/nuclear/particle physics, quantum mechanics and solid state physics. Provides American academics with a rare opportunity to "look over each other's shoulders" and to steal (worked) test questions from each other.
