Once in the ballpark, the time taken by Cubs players, field personnel and front-office executives in talking about Sammy Sosa was crucial. I'm indebted to manager Jim Riggleman, team president Andy MacPhail and general manager Ed Lynch for taking blocks of time out of their heavy schedules for one-on-one interviews. And many, many thanks to hitting coach Jeff Pentland, who kept going back and forth to the visitors' dugout in Milwaukee County Stadium to try to find me. We found each other, all right, and Pentland's wisdom comprises an entire chapter here.
