One of the world's foremost authorities on magnetism, Professor Louis Néel was the recipient of the 1970 Nobel Prize in Physics. A representative selection from his scientific work was published some time ago by Edition do Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique. All but ten of Néel's 150 original papers were written in French. The object of this English edition is to bring this important work to a wider readership. The translation was the work of nine English-speaking physicists, all of them specialists in various aspects of magnetism.
