Spectroscopic Properties of Rare Earths

In this book I have endeavored to give a rather detailed discussion of some of the problems associated with the interpretation of the spectroscopic
properties of the rare earths. My aim has been to present the major theoretical results in a form that will be usable by experimentalists without requiring a specialized knowledge of the theory of tensor operators or of group theory. Consequently, no attempt has been made to give detailed derivations. The emphasis is on the application of the results of theoretical investigations to the interpretation of experimental data rather than on the theoretical techniques themselves.
