Als ein Jugendlicher auf beraus mysterise und grausame Art und Weise ums Leben kommt, finden die Freunde des Toten in dessen Computer ein ultrarealistisches 3D-Videospiel mit dem Titel „Stay Alive“. Das Game beruht auf der wahren Geschichte der „Blood Countess“, einer Adeligen aus dem 17. Jahrhundert, die aufs Grausamste gefoltert und ermordet wurde und sich als Geist fr das ihr zugefgte Leid nicht minder brutal rchte.

Schon bald sind die Freunde von dem Spiel gefesselt, denn ihre Spielcharaktere sehen aus wie virtuelle Abbilder ihrer selbst. Je weiter sie vordringen, desto schockierender wird jedoch die Erkenntnis, dass sie einen hohen Preis dafr zahlen mssen: Die „Blood Countess“ ist ihnen auf den Fersen und setzt ihren blutigen Rachefeldzug fort. Ttet sie eine Figur im Spiel, so stirbt der dazugehrige Spieler auch in der Realitt – auf genau gleich brutale Weise. Immer mehr Freunde kommen um, und den berlebenden luft langsam die Zeit davon …
