The issue of the anthropologist's sexuality in the field has never been confronted as a legitimate object of reflection and is perhaps the discipline's biggest taboo. The negative result of this has been the image as the anthropologist as superhuman and many young anthropologists have been unprepared for coping with personal relationships which occur in a totally alien culture.
