Angel Fire East (1999) Terry Brooks (born January 8, 1944) is a writer of fantasy fiction. Terry Brooks mainly writes high fantasy, and has also written two movie novelizations. He was born in the rural midwestern town of Sterling, Illinois and spent a large part of his life living there. He is an alumnus of Hamilton College, obtaining his B.A. in English Literature in 1966. He later obtained a J.D. from Washington and Lee University. He was a practicing attorney before becoming a full-time author, and now resides in Seattle, Washington. Brooks has a possible movie deal for his Magic Kingdom for Sale book. Terry Brooks mainly writes high fantasy, and has also written several movie novelizations. His first novel, The Sword of Shannara, was an immediate bestseller, but some critics accused Brooks of having plagiarized the plot from J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings - something that he strenuously denies. The chief similarity is that it is a heroic fantasy featuring various races who form an alliance against a dark lord and set out on a quest to defeat him. The Sword of Shannara is a fantasy novel by Terry Brooks. As the first book of The Original Shannara Trilogy, it was the first published novel in Brooks' Shannara series. The Sword of Shannara was the very first book published by Terry Brooks. The story chronicles the adventures of foster brothers Shea and Flick Ohmsford against the Warlock Lord, a dark and mysterious presence in a world that is a strange blend of sorcery and technology. Many sequels and prequels followed, expanding on the world of the Four Lands and tracing the Ohmsford lineage. It was first published in New York by Random House in 1977. It was also the first fantasy novel to appear on, and subsequently top the New York Times bestseller list.
