The Cambridge Companion to Atheism
Cambridge University Press | 2007 | English | ISBN: 9780521842709 | 352 pages | PDF | 5 MB

A reference work on atheism intended for students and nonspecialists. Its eighteen authors include eleven writers from philosophy, three from religious studies, and one each from sociology, anthropology, psychology, and law. Quite well organized, the book has three chapters on Background, nine on The Case Against Theism, and six on Implications. It is often interesting and stimulating, and contains a good deal of useful material. But its chapters are of uneven quality, and some will be tough going for beginners. The book also features some internal tensions (perhaps the inevitable result of such a diverse set of contributors). These tensions are not in themselves disturbing and could even be pedagogically useful.

The only way to disprove atheism is to prove the existence of god. Pascal's Wager isn't it. :)

Yes .. but nobody will ever prove it - :)

And nobody will ever disapprove the existence of God....

fdikbas, of course, you can't prove a negative... BTW, I'm an agnostic so I think that both theists and atheists are wrong because there is no way to actually prove or disprove the existence of a god. This is also why Pascal's Wager is foolish as well.

Foub, to be agnostic means to assert that there is no way of obtaining any trascendent knowledge, it is more far reaching than proving the existence of God. To prove something is to show unambiguosly some fact to the 'others', so the knowledge is 'objective' instead of subjective. God and the religious experince (that can involve or not a God) is subjective in nature, religion itself is more a matter of experience than belief.
Greetings to all.

A wise man once said, "I don't know."

Please present your verifiable, credible, and unbiased evidence for either the existence or non-existence for a god or even for this so-called "transcendental knowledge" (Whatever that is). Now, you see what I mean. Belief is evidence for nothing.

Religion is more a matter of blind faith. Theists fill in the unknown with god. Agnostics are far more honest about this than either theists or atheists. They each assert knowledge, whether it be for or against, it is still a claim of knowing. I make no claim of knowledge.

Let me see;

The Jews have been at it for around 6000 years, the Christian for 2000, and the Muslims a few centuries less than that and none of them have come up with ANY evidence that meets ANY of the above criteria. All they're mostly doing is killing each other trying to force the others, even those of their own, to believe in their version of their religion. Religion has done far more real harm to Mankind than any real good in the long run.
