Description

The Navy Lark was radio's longest running sitcom, sailing the airwaves for nearly twenty years before coming into harbour with a Jubilee Special in 1977. It was initially based on Jon Pertwee's experiences in World War 2. During his time in the Navy, Pertwee joined the cast of the naval radio show HMS Waterlogged after his senior officer had sent him to check the show for inappropriate jokes. After leaving the forces, Pertwee appeared in various other radio productions until The Navy Lark was created as a vehicle for his acting talents in 1959.

The crew are put at the disposal of a film company with disastrous consequences in classic episode "An Exercise in Filming", while in "The Lighthouse Lark", they try to rescue a lighthouse keeper trapped by a storm. HMS Troutbridge has a bit of a bump in "A Deliberate Bashing"; and in "Tug-Of-War", the ship is called upon to escort a visiting dignitary to Portsmouth. Fred Vintner, the President of The Navy Lark Appreciation Society, has selected these four favourite episodes for you to enjoy. So, climb aboard and join the merry crew in these four classic capers, starring Jon Pertwee, Leslie Phillips, Ronnie Barker, Tenniel Evans and Richard Caldicot.
