The Toronto Notes for Medical Students 2008 represents the dedicated effort of over 100 student volunteers from the graduating class at the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. Now in its 24th year, the Toronto Notes has grown considerably from its humble roots – a photocopied set of study notes, compiled by a handful of UofT students in preparation for their licensing exam. It has become an internationally recognized resource for medical students throughout their undergraduate training: in preclinical studies, on the wards, and in studying for the licensing exams. Copies of the Toronto Notes are now available on every continent with the exception of Antarctica.

The topics covered in this book offer a comprehensive study guide for both the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Part 1 as well as the United States Medical Licensing Exam Step 2. Students at all levels will benefit from the years of refinement reflected in this publication. The 24th edition has continued to build on the quality work and effort of previous editions. The material provided has been thoroughly reviewed, edited, and updated. Summaries of the latest in evidence based medicine have been added and revised, helpful new mnemonics and pearls have been inserted, and dozens of new figures have been created to help elucidate difficult concepts.
