About the Author

Eileen Wood is a full professor in the Department of Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University.  She conducts research in developmental and educational psychology.  Her primary interest involves studying how people learn new information and how features of the leaning environment affect the learner.  She began teaching introductory psychology for nursing and broadcasting students in Ontario while she completed her Ph.D.  She continued teaching introductory psychology when she moved to Wilfrid Laurier University.  Since then, she has taught a variety of courses, and her interaction with students has led to the development of this text.  Dr. Wood is and active researcher and the author of many books, book chapters, and articles on developmental psychology.

 

Serge Desmarais received his Ph.D. in social psychology from the University of Waterloo.  He is an associate professor and Canada Research Chair in applied social psychology at the University of Guelph, where his responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate course and research supervision.  His expertise involves social psychology, gender issues, close relationships, and social justice.  Dr. Desmarais is an active researcher and the author of many articles and book chapters in the areas of interpersonal relations, social justice, work and pay expectations, and gender issues.  He has been actively involved as a consultant to both public and private organizations, such as the Public Service Commission of Canada, the National Study on Gender and Work, the Correctional Service of Canada, and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.
