saggio nato dal corso di microsistemi e nanosistemi, tenuto dal prof. arnaldo d’amico presso l’università di roma tor vergata. tratta di mems (micro electro mechanical systems), intelligenza artificiale, gesture recognition, aptica ed usabilità. oltre alla classificazione e la storia di diversi tipi di periferiche (controller midi, tastiera e mouse per personal computer, joystick e joypad per applicazioni videoludiche, schermi touchscreen), contiene considerazioni sulle applicazioni della frustrated total internal reflection (ftir) ed esperimenti sulla sensorizzazione di una protesi e di retroingegneria sul controller della consolle nintendo wii, il quale contiene un giroscopio prodotto da analog devices e un accelerometro prodotto da st microelectronics.

text born from the microsistems & nanosistems course, held by prof. arnaldo d’amico in tor vergata university of rome, may - july 2006. the paper is about mems (micro electro mechanical systems), artificial intelligence, gesture recognition, haptics and usability. beyond the classification and history of different types of peripherals (midi controllers, mouse and keyboard for personal computers, joystick and joypads for videogaming, force feedback, touchscreens), there are considerations about the possibile applications of frustrated total internal reflection (ftir), like cooperative tables and new operating systems based on gestures. there are also practical experiments about mounting sensors on a leg prothesys, and the nintendo wii controller retroengineering, exploiting cheap gyroscope sensors from analog devices, and accelerometers from st microelectronics.
